I’m re-blogging this poem in the light of recent events. The Hathras Gang Rape Case has left all of us horrified, disgusted. But first of all, we really need to erase this stupid mentality where we blame the victim for being raped.

These questions do haunt me too
Every crime, women is responsible, they have to hide faces
They can’t leave the house, they can’t do anything
And one you committed those crimes, are roaming free

Sadly, the world turns a deaf ear to such ghastly incidents. The “blame the victim” mentality will forever persist, no matter what we do/how hard we try to bring about a change.

Thank you for writing such an amazing poem about a difficult and horrible injustice. Women have paid such a price for being brave and for taking their cases to court. Rape is a horrible crime that steals and takes so much. I know this first hand. No one is protected when it comes to the legal system.
